Keeping things fresh
One of my favorite things about the sites that I visit daily is the fact that there is always fresh content. These sites aren’t necessarily updated every day, but new content appearing even once a week is more than enough for me to be excited.
I really loved the design of my old website (granted, it was only live for about 6 months), but the issue I had was that there was no way for me to gain an audience. The only thing that was updated was the portfolio section, which was not enough to keep people coming back. I started monitoring the traffic back on November 9th for the CSS Reboot, and the first couple weeks were great! I had never seen that kind of traffic come to my site. Over time, though, the traffic took a sharp decline—I hadn’t planned for that. I still visit some of the sites that I remembered seeing in the Reboot, and I want my site to be one of those that people will continue to check after the event is long over.
This is my attempt to change that!
As much as I love the new look and functionality of this site, my challenge will be keeping it fresh. Whether it’s actual blog posts, or something as small as fresh links in my ‘Distractions’ section, I want to always have something new. I have been blogging for just over a year on my personal blog site, and that has been fairly easy to update because everything is about what happens to me; there is always something to say. But since this isn’t intended to be personal, I have to approach it a bit differently. What I did in my free time doesn’t belong on a blog with a goal to be professional.
Something is better than nothing in my book. Who knows how much traffic this site will generate, or what kind of audience I will gain? My goal is to leave a lasting impression on whoever reads this site in the same way that my favorite sites leave an impression on me. So if you keep reading, I will keep writing!
