Re-adjusting Things

So the holiday season is always a busy time of the year. And since this is the first holiday season for this blog, I realized that things slowed down a tad bit, so I’m trying to get back in the swing of things. Being out of down puts a nice cramp into blogging, but family comes first.

I also just started a new job this week as a User Interface Engineer, so my work schedule is a little different. Blogging at work might not be so easy because of the amount of work that I’ll have, so I will have to force myself to stay in the zone when I get home to write here. But I’m not worried about that.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been getting used to using BBEdit for my coding platform. Before hand, I was “born and raised” on Dreamweaver ever since I started learning how to code. Now I didn’t necessarily rely on the “design” view much at all, but never the less, it’s still a WYSIWYG. It did, however, make me a little nervous when I knew that the new job wasn’t going to be using those. Why nervous? No idea.

When it came time for me to man up and use a pure text editor, I felt right at home. I didn’t miss using Dreamweaver at all. With that realization, I noticed it’s really nice knowing the code, and not leaning on something to do the work for me. I think that while using Dreamweaver, that maybe I underestimated my skill level, so it made me happy to see I didn’t need a “just in case” app for knowing the code. You either know it or you don’t!

So I am getting back in the swing of things, and re-adjusting my schedule to accommodate the new job, but I have to say….I love this stuff!

  • Congratulations on the new job, John! ‘User Interface Engineer’ sounds really impressive - much better than ‘web designer’ anyway ;)

You’re right though - family should come first. I doubt you’ll loose readers simply because you’re blogging less. I’ll continue reading anyroad!

  • Yeah being a UIE makes me sound all important! I’ve given up the term “web designer” a long time ago because it tends to get misused alot, and is a little vague.

  • Welcome aboard.

Dreamweaver is a good place to begin, but just like training wheels, it’s meant to be out-grown. Glad to see you’re enjoying the [code] view.

btw you always have good links on this blog, thanks for the reading material.

  • Thanks Jim! I’m glad to be apart of the team, I’ve been bragging about it all week! :)

I surf the web like a mad man, so I’m always finding cool stuff worth bookmarking……so I will keep those coming.
