Things are Getting Wider

So this morning, I was doing my normal web surfing and came across the Time magazine’s brand new website. My first thought was, wow, they surely did stretch things out, but it looks great, and I’m starting to notice alot more of this.

What I like about the new Time mag site is the use of space with the amount of content that is there. It’s no easy feat trying to keep things looking clean and in order when you have that much content to present on the front page, but they did a great job with that. I also think that if that design was any slimmer in width, it would look like an utter mess.

What I also like about this, is that they offer the site for your mobile device as well. So I checked it out on my Moto Q, and it looks awesome. So it seems that Time mag online is really keeping up with the times, and that’s very good to see with such a big organization.

Now of course this can’t happen with every site out on the web, but I really like seeing designs expanding in width. It opens up new doors for creativity and site architecture. I look forward to see a lot more of this throughout the year, and the more I see, the more ideas I have for the next version of this site.

  • Man, I hate the widening of web-sites of today. I sincerely hate having to maximize my browser on lower resolution machines (like my laptop) just so that I can see all of the content. I know that it provides more available space for “content”, but it seems like it just adds more space for ads or other related stuff that just isn’t necessary.

  • Well, the ads aren’t going anywhere anyways, and I’d rather see a widened design with more space than a small cluttered site with ads.
