From Idea to the Web

Greetings! Finally, I have gotten the chance to redesign my site, as accompanied by a bit of blog software from Movable Type . I’ve tried all kinds of different blogware from WordPress, and Textpattern to Joomla (formerly known as Mambo), and I must say that this is my favorite so far.

I am finally making my blogging debut out on the web. I would be lying if I said I was not a little nervous about it. Comments on other designer blogs range from the complimentary to those that rip them to shreds. I only hope many of your comments will not be of the latter population. Of course, people have their own opinions, which I have no problem with whatsoever. This site is going to be strictly my opinion on what I think about and go through as a young designer. In no way am I an expert, nor will I try to be–in fact, I am quite new to all of this. I have been doing web design for about 3 years strong now, and I am still at my first design job, fresh out of school.

Last November, I was a part of the famous CSS Reboot. I never submitted a site into any kind of event like that, so it was a great experience for me. It gave me motivation. Even though I got some very good feedback on my old site that I used, for some reason I felt like it wasn’t enough. I always wanted to add a blog to it before, but there wasn’t nearly enough time to do a design that did it justice. So I held off.

Within the past week, I decided to give Movable Type a try to see what all the hype was about, and I immediately got sucked in. I instantly knew that was the software that I had wanted to use for my next blog site. So instead of trying to put the old design into new software, I figured that I might as well start fresh. So starting roughly last Thursday, I went hardcore into design mode. My weekend was nothing but Photoshop, CSS, and Movable Type. We formed quite the bond.

It paid off.

It is very satisfying seeing your site live after putting so much work into it. Only time will tell how successful it will be. I have also registered for the next Reboot for May, with not one idea in mind. No idea, or site to do. So I told myself if I didn’t find anything by April, I would just do my site over. Looks like I’ve jumped the gun a bit!
So again…welcome to Tales of a Designer. It will be all about what I go through in my quest to become a better designer. This site will constantly be a work in progress, and I will continue updating and such, so I hope you like it so far. There will be more…so come back!
